병원 내 감염과 디자인 7

 

디자인이 병원을 위해 할 수 있는 design for health care에 대해 생각해보는 시간,

오늘은 7번째 시간으로 영국의 병원 내 재감염 문제해결을 위한 Design Bugs Out 사업 중 Helen Hamlyn Centre, Royal College of Art 의 Hygienic Blood Pressure Cuff에 대해 펴보겠습니다.

 

질환 치료를 목적으로 통원 또는 입원중인 환자가 통원, 입원이 원인이 되어 각종 세균에 의한 감염증을 일으키는 사례들이 있는데요. 그만큼 의료 환경은 언제나 감염원과 피감염원이 동거하고 있는 상태이므로 늘 공기감염, 접촉감염의 위험에 노출되어 있다는 사실을 생각할 필요가 있다고 합니다.

특히 환자들이 흔히 혈압을 재는 Cuff의 Fabric과 Velcro 또한 많은 병균들로 노출되어 있고, 청결을 유지하기가 힘든데요. 이러한 어려움을 Helen Hamlyn Centre, Royal College of Art팀에서 디자인적 아이디어로 해결을 시도하였답니다.

바로 waterproof shell 과 magnetic closures입니다. (공기나 가스로) 부풀리게 되어 있는

inflatable bladder 원리와 밸크로없는 magnetic catches를 통해 병원감염을 최소화하고 사용법 또한 간단하다는 것이 특징입니다. 

 

 

Problem:

another everyday healthcare item that is hard to clean.

Current cleaning practices require the cuff to be wiped clean with

a wet cloth between uses, yet this is ineffective on the Velcro

fastening and leaves the fabric cold and damp.

 

Challenge:

a wipe-clean cuff that is as easy to use as the existing

design and secures without the need for Velcro.

 

Solution:

a fully adjustable cuff that fastens using magnetic catches, thereby overcoming the need for Velcro. The cover is

made from an easy-to-sanitise PVC, and printed with simple-tofollow

instructions and cheerful graphics.

이 새로운 혈압측정띠는 튼튼하고 솔기가 없는 폴리에틸렌 커버로 씌워져 있어 사용 후 매번 깨끗하게 닦을 수 있고, 또한 이음새 없이 매끄럽고 유연한 스틸 테이프에 내장된 자석띠로 혈압측정기가 고정되기 때문에 벨크로를 사용할 필요가 없다는 것도 장점이라고 합니다.
