미국 휴스턴 미국 Hcd conference가 열린 George R. Brown Convention Center에서 11월15일(화)08:00-09:00에는 주제분야 9. 상호작용 (Interactives)의 하나로 I20_Let's Talk Trends from I20- Let's Talk Trends: What's Influencing Healthcare Design Now and What's Next

(트렌드를 얘기 합시다: 무엇이 현재의 헬스케어 디자인에 영향을 주며 다음은 무엇일까?)

이라는 제목의 강연이 있었습니다.

강연자는 Sara Marberry(EDAC, Writter, blogger, Marketing Consultant)와 Sarah Bader(IIDA, LEED AP BD+C, EDAC, Gensler)로 현재와 미래의 헬스케어 디자인에 영향을 주는 것에 대해 살펴보는 시간을 가졌습니다.

 

 

두 분 다 EDAC을 보유하고 있었는데, 미국 내 의료공간 관계자들은 많이 보유하고 있는 자격으로 의료공간디자인에서 매우 유용한 EDAC(Evidence Design Accreditation and Certification)을 의미합니다.

미국의 의료 시설 설계에 영향을 주는 요소는 환자 인구 통계,기술, 정치등 많은 요소가 있고, Retail clinics, mHealth and home healthcare에 이르기까지 우리가 어디에 어떻게 무엇을 관심가져야 할지 다양합니다.

또한 Boomers, millennials and gen-Xers의 세대에서도 모두 서로 다른 요구와 필요를 가지고 있습니다.

 

 

The Health Research Institute가 조사한 바로는 2013년에 16%정도의 소비자가 health app on their mobile device를 사용했던 것에 반해 2015년에는 32%로 증가했으며, Millennials세대들은 보다 열정적으로 wearables and health apps를 사용하며,health interactions에 있어서 virtual communication를 선호하는등 변화가 일어나고 있습니다.

 

 

또한 일부 병원들은 new“"bedless”" hospitals and virtual care centers를 운영하며,

먼곳에 있는 patients (far-flung locations)를 위한 다양함을 모색하고 있습니다.

2010년에서 2014년까지 예를들어 ulcers(궤양), infections, and avoidable traumas등 hospital-acquired conditions은 17%의 감소를 보였으며. 이는 87,000명의 생명과 $20 billion의 비용감소를 가져왔다고 합니다.

 

 

 

MAJOR DRIVING FORCES OF TRENDS THAT ARE SHAPING HEALTHCARE ORGANIZATIONS’ STRUGGLES ARE:

은 다음과 같이 정리할 수 있는데요.

 

 

Affordability (적당한 가격으로 구입할 수 있는 것; 감당할 수 있는 비용)

Coverage gaps

Consumerism(소비자 중심주의)

Holistic focus on health(전체론적 초점)

Payment for value

New technologies

Chronic care management(만성 관리)

Consolidation(통합)

Community benefit

 

이로부터 가장 영향력있는 것을 기대하여 Four of these issues impact healthcare facility design으로 정리해보았는데요.

 

 

   

바로 다음의 4가지입니다.

 

결국 이는 다음의 4가지로

 

Acquiring or affiliating with community hospitals

Building a bedless hospital

Building a virtual care center

Partnering with retail clinics

 

변화될 것입니다.

 

또한 a growing volume of obsolescence(노후화, 진부화)의 현상으로 예상되어지는 통계를 제시하였습니다.

 

 

이를 토대로 성공적인 병원을 위해 우리가 고려사항으로 다음의 8가지로 귀결하였습니다.

 

 

 

디자인그룹 Gensler는 2025의 five metatrends를 다음과 같이 정리해보았습니다.

 

1.embracing our iHumanity

(The ability to monitor health and manage chronic conditions using smart phones and wearable devices may keep people out of the hospital and living at home longer. This may reduce the demand for acute care beds and assisted living facilities.)

It기술을 잘 쓰고 활용하는 능력이 병원을 멀리 할 수 있는 생활패턴과 관련되어 병원시설의 변화를 가져올 수 있을 것 같고,

2.leading “smarter” lives

(We’l live in a “made”environment, not just a “built” one.)

다양한 smarter care units은 monitor movement와 연동하여 보다 건강유지를 위한 환경으로 변화할 수 있고,

3.designing Both time and space

(Waiting spaces in hospitals, clinics, medical/

dental offices evolve into places of interest.)

대기시간이 새로운 즐거움을 위한 경험으로 변화하며,

4.urbanity, not Just urbanizationt

(More integration of healthcare facilities into the

community, whether it be retail, stand-alone

clinics, or senior living communities.)

그들의 커뮤니티와 연관된 집약적인 헬스케어시설의 이용이 늘어날 것이고,

5.cities as innovation engines

(Patients and family members will have more

influence over how and where they get their care)

이제는 모두가 함께하는 보다나은 digital/artisanal maker cultures를 위한 co-create한 조직이 될 것이다.

 

마지막으로 강연자였던 Sara Marberry가 제안한 The Most Powerful Tool in Your Healthcare Design Toolbox:Empathy의 동영상을 소개해 봅니다.
